In the Nutrient Settings section you can adjust your nutrient requirements, including adding additional nutrients.
Wagmu can accommodate a wide variety of diets, including several common ones outlined below.
Wagmu uses the nutritional requirements given by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. The IOM has recommended minimums and maximums for each nutrient. Changing these settings could be hazardous to your health! Though Wagmu can accommodate a wide variety of specialized requirements, check with your doctor before you make any changes to your nutrient requirements. Wagmu is not a subsitute for a medical professional, and should only be used as a guide. Check the Wagmu User Agreement for more details.
To change your requirements for a particular nutrient, click "Edit."
This will allow you to change the minimum requirement. Keep in mind that the minimum requirement cannot be set higher than the maximum requirement.
After you type in a new a minimum, click tab to move your cusor over to change the maximum requirement. Then type a new maximum. Remember, the maximum must be greater than or equal to the minimum.
Neither the maximum nor the minimum may be set to zero. However, you can leave the box blank, in which case the requirement will be set to "any." This is useful if you wish to set only an upper bound or only a lower bound.
To add a new nutrient, click "Add a new nutrient"...
This will reveal a dropdown menu that functions similarly to the dropdown menus on the Food Plan. You can type in the first few letters of a nutrient to search for it...
...or you can scroll through the dropdown menu and select your desired nutrient from the list. Once you have done either of these, click enter.
From there, set the maximum and minimum requirements for this nutrient, just as you would for any other nutrient.
Wagmu can accommodate a low fat diet. However, Wagmu uses the nutritional requirements given by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. The IOM has not defined a total fat requirement. However, they have specific recommendations regarding related nutrients, such as omega-6 fatty acids. Changing your minimum fat requirement could be hazardous to your health! Before you make any changes to your nutrient requirements, check with your doctor that the change is appropriate for you. Wagmu is not a subsitute for a medical professional, and should only be used as a guide. Check the Wagmu User Agreement for more details.
However, if low fat is right for you, Wagmu does allow you to change your requirements for this.
To do so, first click "Edit" in the row corresponding to total fat.
This will allow you to change the minimum requirement. Total fat already has the minimum set to "Any," so you may just want to adjust the maximum. To do that, click tab to move your cusor over to the maximum requirement. Then simply enter the new maximum amount. Remember, the maximum must be greater than or equal to the minimum, and neither may be set to zero.
Thus, you can set your own total fat requirements to meet your needs.
Wagmu can accommodate a low carb diet, such as Atkin's. However, Wagmu uses the nutritional requirements given by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. The IOM recommends a minimum of 130g of carbohydrate for (non-pregnant, non-lactating) people above the age of 1 year. Changing your minimum carbohydrate requirement could be hazardous to your health! Before you make any changes to your nutrient requirements, check with your doctor that the change is appropriate for you. Wagmu is not a subsitute for a medical professional, and should only be used as a guide. Check the Wagmu User Agreement for more details.
However, if this is right for you, Wagmu does allow you to change your carbohydrate requirements.
To do so, first click "Edit" in the row corresponding to carbohydrates.
From there, you can enter the new minimum amount. Neither the minimum nor the maximum maybe set to zero. However, you can leave the box blank, in which case the requirement will be set to "any." This is useful if you wish to set only an upper bound.
After you type in a new a minimum, click tab to move your cusor over to change the maximum requirement. Then type a new maximum. Remember, the maximum must be greater than or equal to the minimum.
Thus, you can set your own carbohydrate requirements to meet your needs.
Wagmu can accommodate a low soduim diet. However, Wagmu uses the nutritional requirements given by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. The IOM recommends a minimum of 1500mg of sodium for people between the ages of 9 years and 50 years. Changing your sodium requirements could be hazardous to your health! Before you make any changes to your nutrient requirements, check with your doctor that the change is appropriate for you. Wagmu is not a subsitute for a medical professional, and should only be used as a guide. Check the Wagmu User Agreement for more details.
However, if low sodium is right for you, Wagmu does allow you to change your requirements for this.
To do so, first click "Edit" in the row corresponding to sodium.
This will allow you to change the minimum requirement. Keep in mind that the minimum requirement cannot be set higher than the maximum requirement. Neither the minimum nor the maximum maybe set to zero. However, you can leave the box blank, in which case the requirement will be set to "any." This is useful if you wish to set only an upper bound.
After you have erased what is in the minimum box, click tab to move your cusor over to change the maximum requirement. Then type a new maximum. Remember, the maximum must be greater than or equal to the minimum.
Thus, you can set your own sodium requirements to meet your needs.
Wagmu can accommodate a low cholesterol diet. However, Wagmu uses the nutritional requirements given by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. Because the body can synthesize cholesterol, the IOM recommends keeping dietary cholesterol "As low as possible while consuming a nutritionally adequate diet". Changing your cholesterol requirements could be hazardous to your health! Before you make any changes to your nutrient requirements, check with your doctor that the change is appropriate for you. Wagmu is not a subsitute for a medical professional, and should only be used as a guide. Check the Wagmu User Agreement for more details.
However, if low cholesterol is right for you, Wagmu does allow you to change your requirements for this.
First, you will need to add cholesterol as a new nutrient, as it is not listed by default.
The nutrient dropdown menu functions similarly to the dropdown menus on the Food Plan. You can type in the first few letters of "cholesterol" search for it...
...or you can scroll through the dropdown menu to find it. Once you have done either of these, click enter.
Next, you will need to edit its requirements. To do so, click "Edit" in the row corresponding to cholesterol.
That's what I've done here.
After you have entered or left blank the new minimum, click tab to move your cusor over to change the maximum requirement. Then type a new maximum. Remember, the maximum must be greater than or equal to the minimum.
Thus, you can set your own cholesterol requirements to meet your needs.
Wagmu can accommodate a high fiber diet. However, Wagmu uses the nutritional requirements given by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. The IOM fiber intake recommendation are specified by age and gender, generally falling between 20g and 40g. Changing your fiber requirements could be hazardous to your health! Before you make any changes to your nutrient requirements, check with your doctor that the change is appropriate for you. Wagmu is not a subsitute for a medical professional, and should only be used as a guide. Check the Wagmu User Agreement for more details.
To do so, first click "Edit" in the row corresponding to fiber.
This will allow you to change the minimum requirement. Remember, the minimum amount must be less than the maximum amount.
However, the maximum is already set to "any," so you probably won't need to change it.
Thus, you can set your own fiber requirements to meet your needs.
Wagmu's upper limit for folate is for all folate, to be on the safe side, when IOM intends the upper limit only for fortified foods and supplements.
